INFO

With the beginning of school year 200 schoolchildren will receive remedies including iodine within the framework 'Water for sustainable development and health in Crimea'.

This is a second stage of passing remedies for children who suffer from diffusive goiter of 1-3 degree. Last autumn children in four Crimean regions: Simferopol, Feodosiya, Kerch, Northern Crimea were examined by doctor on endocrinology illnesses. Altogether, 625 children were examined. About half of them appeared to have pathology of endocrine system (diffusive goiter of 1-3 degree). As a result, it was decided to give remedies of iodine to 325 schoolchildren.

Examination and passing of remedies are held within the framework of project 'Water for sustainable development and health in Crimea' (Crimean Republican Association 'Ecologiya i Mir' with support of NOVIB in the Netherlands, 2003-2005).

The first portion of remedies was passed to children institutions last December. Passing of the second portion began in May this year and will continue in the beginning of school year. Almost 200 schoolchildren will get 'Iodine-Active' in September.

Prevention course should last for six months (two stages), after which repeated examination is planned.

Apart from this, within the framework of the project 'Water for sustainable development and health in Crimea' was given addressed medical help to 7 children: Kerch - 1person, Simferopol - 4 persons, Feodosiya - 2 persons.

Also we plan to give addressed medical help to 6 children: Djankoi - 4 persons, Kerch - 2 persons.
